The BIONIC Formula – A Dead Simple Formula to Success

Inspiration comes at the oddest times.  Many years ago, I was attempting a drastic career change from screenwriting and restaurants to the “stable” world of 9 to 5 employment in an office. I had been utilizing various tried and true resume and cover letter templates as I submitted for job after job after job. For months, I followed the crowd and stuck to standard job hunting conventions. It got me absolutely nowhere. Nada, Zilch. Nothing. I cried myself to sleep, depressed and frustrated by my failures. And as time went on, I gave in to the belief that I had nothing to offer employers and they were right not to call me.

CUT TO one glorious day months later when I realized I had absolutely nothing to lose by taking risks and going for broke. I was already broke lol. So I went for it. I 86’d all those “recommended” resume and cover letter templates I had been using and I started over from scratch. Blank pages were staring back at me,  eager for a story to tell.

And the rest as they say was history. All of a sudden I was getting calls for virtually every job submission. It was like hitting the lottery. I was an overnight sensation and was getting job offers over the phone without interviews. The tables had turned and I was so in demand I managed to land a marketing position with no marketing work experience whatsoever.

So how did I do it?

Throughout all my failures and disappointments I had been learning. The lessons taught me to trust myself, be true to me, use my unique voice and stand out from the crowd.

I attribute my success to the system I developed which I named the BIONIC formula.

Be First

THE PHILOSOPHY

Why the BIONIC Method?

First, It’s based on marketing and screenwriting principles which emphasize leveraging your uniqueness to achieve your goals. This fresh approach requires a can-do mentality and takes courage to implement. I think most of us are a bit afraid to be different — we want to fit in and be accepted as part of the group. But the truth is most of us admire others who are rare, uncommon and one-of-a-kind.

Be First
You should always strive to be the first and only choice. That means you need a grabber and your content and message should be memorable. Be first also requires you give 110% effort to exceed expectations. Your presentation and execution of your idea should be irresistibly unforgettable.
Innovate
You must have no fear to do what no one has done before you. When you follow the crowd you become part of it. Take a chance on new ideas and experiment, play and strive to create something spectacular.
Over the Top
Average is average. Strive for excellence. Do more than is required, work harder than expected. Don’t be afraid to silly or off the wall. Good music and comedy goes all the way. You should go overboard or go home.
Never Give Up
Trial and error and trial again and again. Don’t let critics dissuade you. Think of your failures as “first attempts in learning”. Good things come to those that try harder than the rest.
Initiate Response
You must ask for what you want. Your call to action must be clear and focused. Know what you want before you campaign. This is the hardest aspect of the formula for many of us. The fear of rejection is natural but you should make every effort to overcome it. If you don’t ask you are assured to fail.  If you ask  for what you want then you at least have a chance. Be in the game not a spectator
Close the Deal
Once you receive your response you should always follow through with your offer. If you promised to send an e-book or or offer a free trial it is important that you honor your promise. Don’t flake out or get scared and cut and run.

Key Takeaway:

The BIONIC formula is a fantastic way to achieve your goals if you are willing to step out of your comfort zone and try, try again until you succeed.
